Welcome to the Developmental Learning Centre        

The Developmental Learning Centre was established to assist children and adolescents with mild to moderate learning difficulties.  If your child or teenager demonstrates three or more of the following characteristics he or she would most likely benefit from an assessment at our Centre.

 Common Symptoms of Learning Difficulties

 
  • Performing below age level academically
  • Avoids reading and / or handwriting tasks
  • Difficulty with social relationships
  • Easily frustrated or blames others
  • Awkward or tight pencil grip
  • Skips lines when reading
  • Reverses letters and numbers after the age of 7
  • Easily distracted, short attention span
  • Behavioural problems at home and or school
  • Disorganised and or frequently loses things
  • Clumsy or accident prone
  • Poor balance, lack of coordination or low muscle tone
  • Difficulty remembering or following instructions
  • Appears not to listen (with normal hearing)
  • Over emotional or hypersensitive
  • Difficulty learning or performing new tasks
  • Diagnosed as ADD or ADHD
  • Difficulty maintaining an erect posture

Integrated Listening System (iLs)
 Home System Provider Training



Two day provider training in the use and application of iLs Home System.

What is “integrated” listening and how can it help?
Integrated listening programs combine the therapeutic value of listening therapy with specific visual and balance activities. This combination trains the brain to process and manage multi-sensory input to improve learning and life performance by helping to normalise the way you process and integrate sensory information.

Who can become an iLs provider?
Provider training is designed for professionals working with clients with
• learning and attention difficulties,
• listening and auditory processing problems,
• sound sensitivities, hearing distortions,
• language problems, perceptual difficulties,
• sensory motor challenges or developmental delays.
iLS provider training is for professionals with a qualification in the health, education, music or therapeutic fields.
However, those with a substantial practice/experience who do not meet this level of formal training may apply to train as a provider.

Training objectives:
To explain the purpose and benefits of an Integrated Listening Program. To identify those who might benefit from such programs and gain the knowledge and confidence to provide tailored programs to meet their specific needs, recommend suitable sound equipment and answer client questions. The training will equip you to become a provider by transferring knowledge in the following areas:

Integrated Listening Programs
Explain how iLs programs can help your clients reach their potential.

Ear/Brain
Gain an appreciation of the central nervous system and how we process sensory information.
Auditory processing & sensory integration. Learn how we process auditory information and how poor processing can undermine learning and performance. Understand the Listening zones.

Music & movement programs
Appreciate the purpose of the techniques used in the audio, movement and bone conduction programs.

Audio equipment
Understand the importance of using high quality sound equipment with iLS.

Client identification & assessment
Identify those who might benefit from integrated listening programs. Learn how to conduct client assessments in the context of your professional practice.

Design programs
Understand the program structure and elements. Gain the knowledge and confidence to design iLS programs to meet the unique needs and goals of each client.

Monitor clients
Monitor & support clients, relevant pre and post assessment tools to monitor progress and ongoing needs.

iLS provider performance
Understand the role of an iLS Provider and how to professionally meet the needs of your clients.

Clinic systems
Gain an overview of advanced clinic systems and programs and advanced training options
